To memorize vocabulary it is never enough if you just read the definition of the word.
One of the most important skills of my strategy for memorizing vocabulary is to analyze the word’s pronunciation. First, you should know how to pronounce the word, such as, check the word’s IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet), so that you can find out all the syllables in the word.
For example:
“entrepreneurial” -> entre-pre-neu-rial
This step would be helpful for you to memorize even long and difficult words easily. And that also helps you to recognize the word next time when you hear it from other place.
Another important thing is to make sure that you really know the word’s part of speech. This is a necessary process, because it makes you know how to apply the word in your sentence with a correct grammar.
I hope these methods would be helpful for you guys!
Well, I totally agree with you. To be able to pronounce that word is a important step. I found that my spelling skill is going down because of word processing's grammar and spell check. It has been a problem for me since I started typing a lot. What's your opinion on this? Any suggestions?
回覆刪除My method is to try to spell every word out by myself as much as possible. Nowadays people use text or chat slangs/shorthands to communicate online or on the phone, so they don't really practice spelling the words. I think it can be a problem, what do you think?
Try this online text slang dictionary out, it is interesting!

I agree to your idea. when I find words that I don't know, I write down pronounciation and difinition and stress in japanese.
回覆刪除I have the same problem too. If time allowed, even if it auto-corrects my spelling, I will keep in mind that I misspelled "the word". Then next time when I use "the word", I will take extra care on the word.
